You Decide — Now or Later?Now that you’ve left Federal service, you needto make some decisions about your <strong>TSP</strong> account.Here are the options you can choose from:• Leave your money in the <strong>TSP</strong>. You willhave to make a final withdrawal decision foryour entire account no later than April 1 of theyear after you turn age 70 ½.• Take out part of your account (i.e., makea partial withdrawal). You can withdraw$1,000 or more, which will be paid out in asingle payment. ( This is available only if youdid not already make an age-based in-servicewithdrawal.)• Take out your entire account (i.e., make afull withdrawal). You have three withdrawalmethods to choose from:––a single payment — all (or a portion) of youraccount, paid at one time.––monthly payments — in an amount youchoose or based on your life expectancy.––a life annuity — paid to you throughout yourlifetime or to you or your spouse (or anotherjoint annuitant) while either of you is alive.(This is available only for an amount of$3,500 or more.)A fourth possibility: a “mixed withdrawal” — anycombination of the above three methods.Plus, if you have both a uniformed services anda civilian <strong>TSP</strong> account, you may be able to combineboth accounts into one.Before you request any withdrawal, read thebooklet Withdrawing <strong>Your</strong> <strong>TSP</strong> Account AfterLeaving Federal Service and the <strong>TSP</strong> tax notice“Important Tax Information About PaymentsFrom <strong>Your</strong> <strong>TSP</strong> Account.” The information in thismaterial will help you make an informed decision.If you’re interested in a life annuity or <strong>TSP</strong>monthly payments, visit the <strong>TSP</strong> website forinformation and calculators to help you withyour decision.
