What they said about
ORBIS PICTUS PLAY
MF DNES
“The PLAY exhibition in the Mánes gallery was visited by a record number of people. Its success lies in
the fact that the exhibition brings people joy and is for everyone. … This earned the exhibition first
place among the most successful and most visited exhibitions in the Czech Republic in recent years.”
“... Initiatives such as ORBIS PICTUS are very important. They motivate people to think in a new mode,
to look for and invent new ways – which is the foundation of an innovative society. … Promoting the
European Year of Creativity and Innovation, ORBIS PICTUS will now tour European capitals. In Brussels
it was undoubtedly an unprecedented success.”
What is ORBIS PICTUS PLAY?
The ORBIS PICTUS PLAY project is an international system of travelling exhibitions and accompanying
events. The exhibitions develop imagination and creativity and they are fully interactive. The concept
of the exhibits is based on people touching them, entering into them, playing with them and, in
a way, completing them. The exhibits are in fact instruments, coming to life only after the viewer has
participated.
ORBIS PICTUS PLAY is also an original, creative new way of experiencing the world. The ORBIS PICTUS
project is a concept that is being implemented on a long-term basis. At this point, its plan extends to
2023, when an exhibition will be presented in Naarden, the Netherlands celebrating the 400th
anniversary of the completion of the wonderful and timeless work of John Amos Comenius – The
Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart, a book that became the inspiration for the project.
ORBIS PICTUS PLAY is playful on all levels. From interacting with individual exhibits to creating and
finding connections and references within the exhibition, workshops, and continuing within the realm
of the internet portal.
