Remind students that yesterday’s lesson focused on an asthmaresearch study. Today, the class will look at biomedical researchwith humans in the context <strong>of</strong> the ethical consideration <strong>of</strong> harmsand benefits.32. Ask students to take out a piece <strong>of</strong> paper and fold it inhalf lengthwise.3. Tell students to label the columns “Conditions or Diseases Helpedby Biomedical Research” and “Health Treatments Resulting fromBiomedical Research.”You may need to clarify that a treatment in this case means some kind<strong>of</strong> general discovery, procedure, device, etc.44. Give students five minutes to list as many things as they can undereach column.If students need prompting, you may wish to give them examples <strong>of</strong>conditions or diseases helped by biomedical research such as asthmaand polio.
