Byng, after a sharp engagement,was entirely successful, taking 1400prisoners, and drivingmountains in <strong>the</strong>ir rear.<strong>the</strong> French back into <strong>the</strong>The allies had 1900 killed and woundedin <strong>the</strong> actions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 28th and 30th, while<strong>the</strong> French loss was enormous. Of those wounded in <strong>the</strong> regiment in<strong>the</strong>se two actions, it is recorded that at least fortydied subsequently <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir wounds.The following day <strong>the</strong> sixth division wasordered to march via Eugui tojoin Picton in <strong>the</strong>neighbourhood <strong>of</strong> Roncesvalles, at which place <strong>the</strong><strong>91st</strong> bivouacked on <strong>the</strong> night <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong> August.The allied troops were now occupying <strong>the</strong> sameposition as <strong>the</strong>y had previous to <strong>the</strong> retreat onPampelunaon <strong>the</strong> 27th<strong>of</strong> July, with <strong>the</strong> exception<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> sixth division, who were on thisoc<strong>ca</strong>sion ordered, with <strong>the</strong> third division, to guard<strong>the</strong> Bastan and Col de Maya. In this district<strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> remained until November.
