After that the head-quarters werestationed at Mallow, moving to Cashel on the1808. 27th of November. In January, 1808, theymarched vid Enniscorthy, arriving at Dublin onApril the 6th and 7th there ; they only remainedtill the 21st of May, when they moved to Bandon.
9 1ST ARGYLLSHIRE HIGHLANDERS. 27CHAPTER II.Peninsular War, August, 1808, to Retreat of CorunnaEngland Walcheren Expedition England.ON the 13th of June, 1808, the regiment embarkedat Monkstown, to take partin the Peninsularexpedition.Sir Arthur Wellesley decided that the expeditionshould land at the mouth of the Mondegoriver, which was the only localityon the Portuguesecoast where there was anychance of asafe place for a disembarkation, there being thelittle fort of Figueras, occupied by British marinesguarding it.The landingof August, and althoughthe weather was favourable,commenced on the 1stit was not before the 5th that it wascompleted, and the army encampedat Lavaos.On the 9th the advanced guard marched towardsLeiria, the main body following the nextday, arriving there on the llth, where they werejoined by the Portuguese force.
