Captains William Douglas andDonald MacNeal, and Lieutenants Dun<strong>ca</strong>n Stuartand Eobert Lowrie, were selected, and <strong>ca</strong>meforward on this oc<strong>ca</strong>sion.In August <strong>of</strong> this year his Majesty waspleased to direct that a second battalion should beforthwith formed from <strong>the</strong> men to be raised inaccordance with <strong>the</strong> Act <strong>of</strong> Parliament known as<strong>the</strong> " Defence Act," from <strong>the</strong> counties <strong>of</strong> Perth,Argyll, and Bute <strong>the</strong>; recruiting <strong>of</strong>ficer's headquartersto be at Perth. The 1st battalion wasto be kept up to strength through this newbattalion.In March, 1805,<strong>the</strong> 2nd battalion was still at isos.Perth. It will be as well to record at once <strong>the</strong>short history <strong>of</strong> this battalion before continuingthat <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 1st or original one.On <strong>the</strong> 7th <strong>of</strong> April, 1809, <strong>the</strong> Highlanddress 1309.was discontinued to be worn. In 1811 this isn.battalion was stationed at Canterbury, and twoyears later was again in Scotland, quartered atAyr.
