Served with <strong>the</strong> regiment during itsfirst visit to <strong>the</strong> Peninsula ;was left behind sick in Portugal in 1808,and commanded <strong>the</strong> company formed <strong>of</strong> men left in hospital; wasactively employed in <strong>the</strong> operations which led to <strong>the</strong> <strong>ca</strong>pture <strong>of</strong> Oportoin 1809; was present at <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Talavera, on <strong>the</strong> 27th July,1809, when he was taken prisoner, but managed eventually to effecthis es<strong>ca</strong>pe iu August, and after suffering great privations, rejoined <strong>the</strong>army under <strong>the</strong> Duke <strong>of</strong> Wellington. Served with <strong>the</strong> regiment atToulouse, where he was wounded. Was present at Waterloo. Retiredin 1825.Warburton, Augustus. From f>7th Foot. Major, 18th December,1806. Served in <strong>the</strong> KafiirWar <strong>of</strong> 1846-47; appointed commandant <strong>of</strong> Fort Beaufort in 1847,during <strong>the</strong> absence <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lieutenant-governor. Major, halt-pay, 12thApril, 1850.Ware, Charles. From sergeant-major. Ensign, 21st October,1862 ; lieutenant, 23rd March, 1866. Served in Malta, Greece, IonianIslands, and India, with <strong>the</strong> regiment. Captain, 1st April, 1870. Tohalf-pay, 17th May, 1870.Warlock, Aaron. From half-pay. Captain, 2nd December,1831. Died, 1832.Warren, J. Sandliam. Had previously served in <strong>the</strong> <strong>ca</strong>mpaignon <strong>the</strong> Sutlej (medal) in 1845, and was attached to <strong>the</strong> 53rd, and with<strong>the</strong>m in <strong>the</strong> engagements at Buddiwal and Aliwal ;was present withhis own regiment, <strong>the</strong> 73rd Bengal Native Infantry, at <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong>Sobraon. Also engaged with <strong>the</strong> Cape Mounted Rifles in <strong>the</strong> actionagainst <strong>the</strong> Boers at Boemplaats, in 1848.
