Major, 22nd January, 1867. To <strong>91st</strong>, <strong>the</strong> 31st July,1869. Commanded <strong>the</strong> regiment from <strong>the</strong> 29th January, 1870, to <strong>the</strong>19th January, 1876. To half-pay, 1876. On leaving <strong>the</strong> regiment wasappointed assistant-adjutant and quarter-master-general North BritishDistrict, and subsequently commanded a brigade dep6t.Squirl, William. Prior to entering <strong>the</strong> British army, served asa lieutenant in <strong>the</strong> Austrian service under Marshal Radetski, in <strong>the</strong><strong>ca</strong>mpaign <strong>of</strong> 1848-49, and was present at <strong>the</strong> battles <strong>of</strong> Montarra andNovarra (wounded), and subsequently at <strong>the</strong> siege <strong>of</strong> Leghorn. Ensign,llth May, 1849 ; lieutenant, 8th July, 1851. Served with <strong>the</strong>regiment during <strong>the</strong> Kaffir War <strong>of</strong> 1850-53 (medal). Adjutant,19th May, 1854, to 1856. To recruiting service, 15th March, 1856.Served in <strong>the</strong> Ionian Islands and India with <strong>the</strong> regiment. Captain,5th March, 1858.
