From 84th Foot, with which he had served inthe Indian Campaign of 1857-58; joined Havelock's force at Cawnpore,present at the actions of Mungawar and Alumbngh, headed aparty which stormed and took possession of a gate through whichthe relieving force had to pass on its way to the Residency of Lucknow,commanded a company in the sortie of the 29th September, when anumber of guns were taken, and at the storming of the Him Khannanhe extricated the commanding officer, Major Willis, from a mine pit,and was the first inwhile exposed to a heavy fire from three points,through the breach ; present with Outram's force at the Alumbagh at;the fall of Lucknow commanded three companies of the 84th Foot atthe storming of Kaisabagh served with;Lugard's column, and presentin the actions of the 17th and 26th of April, relief of Azimghur, andpursuit of Koer Sing (medal with two clasps and a year's service).Major in 91st, 5th April, 1864.
