Served at <strong>the</strong> Cape with <strong>the</strong> regiment,afterwards as sergeant-major through <strong>the</strong> Peninsular War, at Waterloo,Cambray, and occupation <strong>of</strong> Paris. Promoted lieutenant and quartermaster,1821. In 1825, being sjpecially recommended by Sir CharlesRowan, he was appointed superintendent <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> London Metropolitanpolice, in which post he served many years, ultimately retiring toBoulogne on a pension <strong>of</strong> 120 a year, where he died in 1869.Maclean, G-eorge. Lieutenant, 18th April, 1794; <strong>ca</strong>ptain, llthDecember, 1800. One <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> four <strong>of</strong>ficers selected to raise a certainnumber <strong>of</strong> men in 1804, for which he received promotion. Major,1st August, 1811; lieutenant-colonel, 3rd September, 1818. Servedwith <strong>the</strong> regiment during <strong>the</strong> Peninsular War, present at <strong>the</strong> Pyrenees(wounded), medal with clasp. Received <strong>the</strong> gold medal for his gallantconduct in command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> light companies <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Highland Brigade,sixth division, at Sauroren, on <strong>the</strong> 28th and 30th July, 1813, whenhe was promoted lieutenant-colonel in <strong>the</strong> army. Retired in 1824.
