Had served in Holland in 1814 and1815, and was present at <strong>the</strong> bombardment <strong>of</strong> Antwerp. Commanded<strong>the</strong> troops on <strong>the</strong> Abercrombie Robinson transport in 1842, but was noton board when she was wrecked. Commanded <strong>the</strong> 1st battalion fromOctober, 1842, until he retired in October, 1848, having served withhis regiment throughout <strong>the</strong> wars <strong>of</strong> 1846-47.Ling, John Theodore. From 4th Light Dragoons, with whichhe served in <strong>the</strong> Punjaub <strong>ca</strong>mpaign <strong>of</strong> 1848-49, including <strong>the</strong> actionat Ramnuggur (with <strong>the</strong> charging squadrons), battles <strong>of</strong> Chillianwallahand Goojerat, crossing <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Chenab, <strong>the</strong> Jhelum, and <strong>the</strong> Indus,surrender <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sikh army at Rawul Pindee, aod pursuit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>Afghans to Peshawur (medal and two clasps). Served towards <strong>the</strong>close <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eastern <strong>ca</strong>mpaign <strong>of</strong> 1855-56, with <strong>the</strong> lo<strong>ca</strong>l rank <strong>of</strong>major, as commandant <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 7th Regiment <strong>of</strong> Albanian Cavalry.Captain, 16th October, 1855.
