Major, 1st January, 1873.Commanded <strong>the</strong> regiment during <strong>the</strong> Zulu War <strong>of</strong> 1879 was; presentat <strong>the</strong> battle <strong>of</strong> Ginginhlovo, relief <strong>of</strong> Ekowe, and subsequent operations;was mentioned in <strong>the</strong> despatches. Lieutenant-colonel, 21stJune, 1879. Medal with clasp and C.B.Bruce, Stewart Hervey. From 63rd Foot, with which he hadserved in <strong>the</strong> Crimea from <strong>the</strong> 6th September, 1855, including <strong>the</strong>siege and fall <strong>of</strong> Sebastopol ;also <strong>the</strong> bombardment and <strong>ca</strong>pture <strong>of</strong>Kinbourne (medal with clasp and Turkish medal).
