The nature <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>sickness was generally fever and dysentery.On <strong>the</strong> 10th <strong>of</strong> May <strong>the</strong> regiment was movedto Fort Crealock to garrison it,and also complete<strong>the</strong> earthworks. The troops <strong>the</strong>n, which wereunder command <strong>of</strong> Major Bruce, were composed<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regiment, half a company <strong>of</strong> RoyalEngineers, two guns E.A., sixteen mountedmen, and a battalion <strong>of</strong> native contingent. Theregiment remained here a month, during which<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong>ir spare time made expeditionsin <strong>the</strong> vicinity to shoot what game <strong>the</strong>y couldfind.
