Allforts and batteries in Cape Town and itsdependencies being now in possessionof hisMajesty, agreeably to the articles of capitulationsigned on the 16th inst., the Commander-in-Chief feels great satisfaction in expressing thehigh sense he entertains of the merits of Major-General Craig, and the officers,soldiers, seamen,and marines who composed the army, throughwhose spirited exertions and cheerful perseverancethrough every hardship this great objecthas been so successfully accomplished, and forwhich he begs they will accept of his warmestthanks. At the same time, he assures them hewill not fail to represent their gallant conductin the warmest terms to their most gracioussovereign at the earliest opportunity, and thathe shall be happyto avail himself to contributeto their ease and prosperity." The flank companieswere also thanked by a general orderissued during that month.The records of the regiment mention that a
