To defray the cost, asmall charge was made at the doors for admission ;this accumulated during the season to 42, withwhich sum a drinking-fountain, close to thecabstand at the castle gate, was erected.In June the regiment left Edinburgh, andembarked on board H.M.S. Tamar, for conveyanceto Belfast, which was reached on the 1st of July.The head-quarters proceeded to Newry, sendingthree companies to Armagh and one company toigvs.also sent toMonaghan, one company beingNewtownards for musketry. At the end of thisyear the Henry-Martinirifle was issued to theregiment.On the 3 1st of March the 91st proceeded to theCurragh.1876. Colonel Sprot presented to the officers' mess, onthe 1st of January, as a new year's gift,an oldMasonic Charter, which had been granted to the

The charter, which is dated London,4th of March, 1801, gives permissionto the 91stRegiment of foot, to form and hold a Lodge ofFree and Accepted Masons at the CapeHope, or elsewhere, uponof Goodthe second and fourthWednesdays in every month.On the 19th of January Colonel Sprot wasappointed assistant-adjutant and quarter-mastergeneralfor the northern district, and the commandof the battalion devolved on Lieutenant-ColonelKirk.In April the head-quarters moved to Enniskillen,leaving a detachment at Londonderry,where they remained until the following May,1887.when the regiment was brought togetheragainat Belfast, sending one company to Carrickfergus,under command of Lieutenant Tottenham. Whilequartered here, theycalled out to aid civil power.After nearly a yearwere on several occasionsthe battalion moved to 1878.Dublin, to be quartered in the Royal Barracks.While stationed here, the strength of the regimentwas augmented to over 1000 men, which wasdone by calling up the army and militia reserves,in consequence of the threatening aspectof affairs17
