9 1ST AEGYLLSHIRE HIGHLANDERS. 255permission <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Commissioners, erected in 1873.Chelsea Hospital, to <strong>the</strong> memory<strong>of</strong> ColonelEdward W. C. Wright, C.B., late <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong>Highlanders. This tablet was put up with <strong>the</strong>joint subscriptions<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers who had served andwere serving in <strong>the</strong> corps. It is a handsomemural brass, and bears <strong>the</strong> following inscription:" To <strong>the</strong> memory<strong>of</strong> Colonel Edward W. C.Wright, C.B., late <strong>91st</strong> Highlanders, and DeputyInspector <strong>of</strong> Eeserve Forces, who died 26thAugust, 1871, aged 57.Captain Wright was <strong>the</strong>senior surviving <strong>of</strong>ficer <strong>of</strong> her Majesty's shipBirkenhead, wrecked <strong>of</strong>f <strong>the</strong> Cape <strong>of</strong> Good Hopeon 26th February, 1852. For his distinguishedservice on this oc<strong>ca</strong>sion he was promoted to <strong>the</strong>rank <strong>of</strong> Major, and awarded a good servicepension. He was engaged in <strong>the</strong> Kaffir War <strong>of</strong>1846-47 and 1852-53, for which he was granted<strong>the</strong> medal and promoted for service in <strong>the</strong> field to<strong>the</strong> rank <strong>of</strong> Lieut.-Colonel. This tablet is erectedby his bro<strong>the</strong>r <strong>of</strong>ficers, MDCCCLXXIII."In February, at <strong>the</strong> request <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Eoyal1874.Scottish A<strong>ca</strong>demy <strong>of</strong> Arts, <strong>the</strong> regiment furnisheda sentry at <strong>the</strong> entrance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir exhibition, forwhich service <strong>the</strong> a<strong>ca</strong>demy presented <strong>the</strong> regimentwith 10, which sum was expended in a hand-
