9 1ST ARGYLLSHIRE HIGHLANDERS. 243CHAPTER XY.Dover Aldershot Princess Louise's Wedding ScotlandIreland.ON the 24th of August, 1869, new colours were 1869.presented to the regiment on the glacis of thewestern heights at Dover, by Mrs. Bertie Gordon,who represented the Duchess of Argyll, who wasunable to be present,as she and the duke wereat Inveraryat the time.Before the ceremony of consecration, ColonelBertie Gordon addressed the regiment, informingthem that their old colours were to find a home atInverary Castle. The Archbishop of Canterbury,who was assisted by five other clergymen, thenperformed the service of consecration, concludingwith a benediction composed for the occasion bythe Eev. John Puckle, Canon of CanterburyCathedral and Yicar of St. Mary's, Dover. Thenew colours were then handed to Mrs. BertieGordon by Majors Penton and Sprot, and by her
