A Benevolent Club 1864.Fund was started in connection with it, having asits object, besides <strong>the</strong> annual social meeting <strong>of</strong> thosewho may have been long separated, <strong>the</strong>starting<strong>of</strong> a charitable fund, which could disburse smallcontributions in aid <strong>of</strong> anyone who had been in<strong>the</strong> regiment, and whom misfortunes may haveovertaken.In January, 1865, Colonel Gordon arrived at i865.Jubbulpoor, and assumed command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regiment.In December <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same year, <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong>left that station, and proceeded partly on foot andpartly by train to Dumdum, which itreached on<strong>the</strong> llth. While at this place Colonel Gordon'shealth broke down, and on recommendation <strong>of</strong> amedi<strong>ca</strong>l board, he left India for Europe in October,1866, handing over <strong>the</strong> command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regiment isee.to Major Battiscombe.After staying a year at Dumdum, <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> wereremoved in January to Hazaareebagh. In No- 1867.vember, Colonel W. T. L. Patterson rejoinedandtook command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regiment. On <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong>December <strong>the</strong> regiment set out again for Kamptee,which it reached after a long and tediousjourney, partly on foot and partly by train, on<strong>the</strong> 26th <strong>of</strong> January, 1868.
