Great interestwas shown when Mar's Hill was pointedout, and the spot where St. Paul addressed thecourt of the Areopagus.In November the order was received from homedirecting that the division of the regiment into1st and reserve battalions should cease, and thatthe companiesof the 1st battalion should be calledthe service companies; the strengthand detailof these companies has already been givenin thebeginning of Chapter XII.During the stay of the regiment in Greece,the men were engaged in many useful occupationswhich were of great benefit to the district inwhich they were performed. Soon after theirarrival at the Piraeus, a detachment which hadbeen sent to Salamis Bay, a placeabout threemiles from head-quarters, constructed a road to it,builta small landing-place, and made other improvementswhich soon turned the camp into acheerful and accessible spot. The great difficultywhich had to be encountered was the want of

Amongst other usefulworks done by the regiment should be mentionedthe re-construction and elevation of thewhole parade ground on the quay, used by thebattalion for drill purposes also the ; raising,draining, and levelling of the streets in whichthe barracks of the men were situated.Detachments were formed from time to time,to give the men a changefrom the defective accommodationsupplied at the head-quarters.In June the regiment was brigaded for a secondtime with the two battalions of French marineISSG.infantry, and took part in a field-day representingthe battleof Islay, in Algeria, for which purposea plan was furnished by the French rear-admiral(Count E. Bouet Willaumez, K.C.B.), commandingthe expeditionary force in Greece.The following February, it beingthe force of occupation was likely to be withdrawnknown that 1857soon, it was agreed for the French and Englishcommands tohold a general parade of the allied15
