The <strong>91st</strong>, with its colours, was on<strong>the</strong> right <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line.The ships in harbour, consisting<strong>of</strong> H.M.S. Fury, H.I.M. shipsGomez andSalamander, were dressed, and fired at noon asalute <strong>of</strong> twenty-one guns <strong>the</strong> French half ;batteryon shore <strong>the</strong>n fired a salute <strong>of</strong> 101 guns. Thetroops presented arms and gave three cheers,after which <strong>the</strong> parade terminated by <strong>the</strong> Frenchbattalions, headed by <strong>the</strong>commandant, marchingpast <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong>, who stood at <strong>the</strong> shoulder, <strong>the</strong>Frenchmen, as <strong>the</strong>y passed <strong>the</strong> front <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> line incolumn <strong>of</strong> half companies, cheering <strong>the</strong>ir Englishcomrades lustily.On <strong>the</strong> 26th <strong>of</strong> September <strong>the</strong> French " Sous<strong>of</strong>ficiers " <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> frigate Gomez invited <strong>the</strong> sergeants<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> to dinner, which was attended bySergeant-Major Stewart and thirty-one sergeants,<strong>the</strong> guests being conveyed on board in<strong>the</strong> ship'spinnace. This invitation was given in return toa similar compliment paid to <strong>the</strong> " Sous <strong>of</strong>ficiers "
