Here <strong>the</strong>re wereout-stations, namely, atCavan, Ballyshannon, andCharlemont, and <strong>the</strong> regiment was continuallybeing employed in <strong>the</strong> aid <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> civil power. Infor <strong>the</strong>September <strong>the</strong> army went into mourningDuke <strong>of</strong> Wellington ;and on <strong>the</strong> oc<strong>ca</strong>sion <strong>of</strong>reading <strong>the</strong> general order announcing his death,on a full-dress parade, <strong>the</strong> regimental colour wascovered with black crape.On <strong>the</strong> llth a party <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficers and men wassent to London to represent <strong>the</strong> regimentat <strong>the</strong>funeral. The names <strong>of</strong> those selected for thisspecial duty were as follows : Major BertieGordon, Captain Cochrane, Lieutenant Bruce,Colour-Sergeant McKay, Corporal Smith, PrivateJames Murphy, and Private James Hunter. On<strong>the</strong> 17th <strong>the</strong>representative detachments <strong>of</strong> corpsassembled at Chelsea Hospital, and marchedpast <strong>the</strong> body lying in state.
