Any personattemptedwho hasto trace <strong>the</strong> <strong>ca</strong>reers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se several<strong>of</strong>ficers in <strong>the</strong> army in subsequent years, hasfound it a verydifficult task, as <strong>the</strong> plan <strong>of</strong>numbering <strong>of</strong>ficers <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same name (1), (2), (3),which is done in later Army Lists, was not <strong>ca</strong>rriedout in books <strong>of</strong> that period.On <strong>the</strong> 26th <strong>of</strong> May <strong>the</strong> first inspection <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>battalion was made by General Lord AdamGordon, who highly complimented <strong>the</strong>regimenton its soldierlike appearance. There were onparade over 700 men who had only beenraised as a battalion within four months ;<strong>the</strong>ywere <strong>the</strong>refore ei<strong>the</strong>r men who had had someprevious training, or were marvellously aptpupils to be considered worthy <strong>of</strong> being complimentedon <strong>the</strong>ir military bearing by <strong>the</strong> general<strong>of</strong>ficer inspecting.The regiment remained at Stirling until <strong>the</strong>middle <strong>of</strong> June, when it marched to Leith, to beembarked on <strong>the</strong> 17th and 18th <strong>of</strong> that mon<strong>the</strong>n route for Netley.
