Knowing, as <strong>the</strong>y did, that <strong>the</strong>regiment was <strong>of</strong>ficered by gentlemen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>and that <strong>the</strong> menhighest military qualifi<strong>ca</strong>tions,whom <strong>the</strong>y commanded were conspicuous for<strong>the</strong>ir orderly and soldierly conduct, <strong>the</strong>yfeltassured that in whatever portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> globe<strong>the</strong>ir services might be required,<strong>the</strong>ir deedswould add lustre to her Majesty's crown, and <strong>the</strong>country over which she reigned. In conclusion,<strong>the</strong>y wished <strong>the</strong> regiment a prosperous voyage.Loud cheers having been given, Major Wright,inreply, acknowledged <strong>the</strong> high compliment,which he knew was both deserved and appreciatedby <strong>the</strong> regiment. This reply was received withano<strong>the</strong>r outburst <strong>of</strong> hearty cheers by <strong>the</strong> assembledcivilians. From <strong>the</strong>ir longand .arduous service<strong>the</strong> regimenthad become so identified with <strong>the</strong>frontier, that, in parting with men with whom<strong>the</strong>y were so familiar, <strong>the</strong> people among whom<strong>the</strong>y had so long dwelt felt that <strong>the</strong>y were bidding
