202 HISTORICAL RECORDS OF THE1852. commander-iu-chief was Major Forbes <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><strong>91st</strong>.The battalion returned to Blinkwater on <strong>the</strong>20th <strong>of</strong> September, where it stayed until <strong>the</strong> 27th,when itproceeded to Fort Fordyce, sending outdetachments to <strong>the</strong> Waterklo<strong>of</strong>, Post Retief, ando<strong>the</strong>r posts.The head-quarters remained at Fort1853.Fordyce till <strong>the</strong> 10th <strong>of</strong> November, 1853, when itmarched to garrison Fort Beaufort, where it1855. remained till June, 1855, sending out detachmentsregularly to occupy various frontier posts.During<strong>the</strong> month <strong>of</strong> June orders were receivedto hold <strong>the</strong> battalion in readiness for embarkationto England ; accordinglyall <strong>the</strong> detachmentswere re<strong>ca</strong>lled to head-quarters. On <strong>the</strong> 5th <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> following month a general order was issuedby <strong>the</strong> commander <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> forces, dated fromGrahamstown, and was as follows :" The reserve battalion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Argyll Sighlandersis ordered to return home with everyprospect <strong>of</strong> being speedily employed in <strong>the</strong>Crimea.
