On <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong> December100 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> Regiment, 100 Cape Townburghers, and six <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cape Corps, again salliedout <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> fort, and co-operating with <strong>the</strong> firstdivision, as on <strong>the</strong> previous oc<strong>ca</strong>sion, <strong>ca</strong>ptured106 head <strong>of</strong> <strong>ca</strong>ttle and nine horses, havingexperienced very trifling opposition.The head-quarters and two companies enteredKaffirland with Lieutenant-Colonel Campbell'scolumn, and were present in <strong>the</strong> operations undertakenin <strong>the</strong> Amatola and Tabudoda Mountainsduring <strong>the</strong> months <strong>of</strong> Septemberand October.The <strong>of</strong>ficers attached to this party were CaptainsScott and Campbell, Lieutenants Dicksonand Met<strong>ca</strong>lfe, Ensign and Adjutant Gordon, andSurgeon Power.As a result <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se operations, <strong>the</strong> Kaffir chiefSandilla surrendered at Fort Hare, bringing inabout forty head <strong>of</strong> <strong>ca</strong>ttle and several muskets and<strong>ca</strong>rbines, takenfrom <strong>the</strong> waggonsat Burn's Hillon <strong>the</strong> 17th <strong>of</strong> April.
