On <strong>the</strong> 28th <strong>of</strong> August <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> Regimentfurnished 160 men as part <strong>of</strong> a patrol underCaptain Durnford, 37th Regiment, which againscoured <strong>the</strong> bushy klo<strong>of</strong>s <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> surroundingcountry. On <strong>the</strong> 5th <strong>of</strong> September<strong>the</strong> reservebattalion <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> was directed to remain andoccupy Fort Cox, with 200 <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cape Townburghers, all under <strong>the</strong> command <strong>of</strong> Major (nowLieutenant - Colonel) Campbell. The divisionhaving placed <strong>the</strong> fort in a state <strong>of</strong> good repair,<strong>the</strong>n moved towards <strong>the</strong> Debe River.While atFort Cox, daily patrols <strong>of</strong> 100 men, under a<strong>ca</strong>ptain, were furnished by <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> Regiment andCape burghers for <strong>the</strong> purpose <strong>of</strong> keeping <strong>the</strong>surrounding bush clear <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> enemy,and reconnoitring<strong>the</strong> neighbourhood.On <strong>the</strong> 17th <strong>of</strong> September Lieutenant-ColonelCampbellhad an interview with <strong>the</strong> Kaffir chief,Macomo, who said he <strong>ca</strong>me in <strong>the</strong> name <strong>of</strong> allKaffirland to sue for peace, and a report <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>interview was forwarded to<strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficer commanding<strong>the</strong> first division.On <strong>the</strong> 23rd <strong>of</strong> October aparty <strong>of</strong> 123 men <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong> Regiment, an equalnumber <strong>of</strong> burghers, and six <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Cape Corps,acting in co-operation with <strong>the</strong> first division,patrolled under Lieutenant-Colonel Campbell in
