On reaching Port Elizabeth,the battalion was embarked on board H.M.S.Geyser, arriving atCape Town after a passage offorty-nine hours, where the head-quarters, undercommand of Colonel Lindsay, and three companies,embarked for home, on the 23rd of February,in the sailing ship Acasta, 350 tons burden,followed on the10th of March by the other threecompanies, arriving at Gosporton the 28th ofApril and llth of May respectively. The depotwas consolidated with the battalion on the 1st ofMay. By a memorandum dated Horse Guards,5th of May, 1846, a second lieutenant-colonelwas appointed to the 91st, as well as to all theregiments having reserve battalions ; he was tohave command of the latter battalion.
