On reaching Port Elizabeth,<strong>the</strong> battalion was embarked on board H.M.S.Geyser, arriving atCape Town after a passage <strong>of</strong>forty-nine hours, where <strong>the</strong> head-quarters, undercommand <strong>of</strong> Colonel Lindsay, and three companies,embarked for home, on <strong>the</strong> 23rd <strong>of</strong> February,in <strong>the</strong> sailing ship A<strong>ca</strong>sta, 350 tons burden,followed on <strong>the</strong>10th <strong>of</strong> March by <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r threecompanies, arriving at Gosporton <strong>the</strong> 28th <strong>of</strong>April and llth <strong>of</strong> May respectively. The depotwas consolidated with <strong>the</strong> battalion on <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong>May. By a memorandum dated Horse Guards,5th <strong>of</strong> May, 1846, a second lieutenant-colonelwas appointed to <strong>the</strong> <strong>91st</strong>, as well as to all <strong>the</strong>regiments having reserve battalions ; he was tohave command <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> latter battalion.
