STUDENT PROFILE“Young Artists Workshop is a doorway tonew opportunities.”INSPIRATION - Seeing the other students working and givingup a day of their weekend to share something they have in commonis the biggest inspiration. It’s also great to get a chance to work withteachers who all have different backgrounds.EVIE GIETKAYoung Artists Workshop StudentHammonton High School10th gradeMOTIVATION - Young Artists Workshop students are verydedicated and enjoy what we are doing. Everyone is fun and you choosehow much effort you put into a project. At school it’s just for a gradeand students aren’t as dedicated but at Young Artists Workshop it’s more. There is also more teacher-student interaction and the class is smallso the teachers get to you quickly.LOCATION - It’s nice to be in the city. It’s fun to walk around, sketch and draw. Young Artists Workshop took me to new and differentplaces like The Rodin Museum. The instructors pointed out things thatI would not have known myself. I have loved every teacher and havelearned so much from them. I have been able to create portfolio piecesthat I would not have otherwise.PREPARATION - My time at Young Artists Workshop has openedme up to a ton of new techniques. When I went to National PortfolioDay, a lot of my pieces came from my YAW classes. It has been great to tryout so many different types of art I wound not have be able to do atmy high school.“Young Artists Workshop has secured my interestin attending art school.”INSPIRATION - My favorite project was when we used ink washin the figure drawing class. I have never experienced the mix betweenacrylic wash and water color before. I really liked the way my teachertaught that project. She started the class by showing us her own work andbrought in the medium that she used. She asked us to go back toour easels and do what we think should be done with the material andthen she walked around and gave us pointers and different techniquesto use. It was awesome to discover it in our own way.MOTIVATION - Seeing other student work has been very motivating. You get to see so many different styles of work every Saturday. It’s also nicethat the other students want to be in the class.PREPARATION - Figurative drawing let me experience a newform of art that I didn’t have any experience with before. Young ArtistsWorkshop also opened up a lot of different art forms just from takingthat one class.JONATHAN CONSTABELYoung Artists Workshop StudentSouderton Area High School10th gradewww.moore.edu/youth_programs • www.theyawblog.blogspot.com • ce@moore.edu17
