Accounts and FinancesWe are not allowed to spend more money thanwe have.Last year we saved £24.4million from our money. We did this by only buying the things we need andstaff working differently. We did this and still had £5.1million left over.We plan to use this money to develop newservices. We met all our financial targets set by theGovernment.Where did our money come from?Last year the total money we had to spend on ourservices was £742million.Most of this money comes from the Primary CareTrusts.Primary Care Trusts buy our services and weprovide them.34

How did we spend our money? We spent £459million on staffingWe spent £36million on our buildingsWe spent the rest on equipment and services weneeded to run the Trust. We also got £38.4million to spend on buildingsand equipment (this is called capital money). With this capital money we did the followingthings:• A new Radiotherapy Centre building• New medical equipment• New computer equipment• A better Emergency DepartmentWe will get £752million to spend next year on ourservices. But, we also have to make BIG savings next year.Every NHS Trust has to have their financeschecked to make sure the money has beenspent correctly. The Audit Commission checked the finances ofNottingham University Hospitals. They said that everything was correct.35
