18 Children’s Needs – Parenting CapacityStructure of the bookIn considering how parental mental illness, learning disability, problem drinking,drug misuse or domestic violence may affect the child, a holistic and developmentalmodel is applied. Research findings are disaggregated through applying theconceptual framework designed to assess and measure outcomes for children in need(Department of Health et al 2000). The three domains of the child’s developmentalneeds, parenting capacity and family and environmental factors constitute theframework.
