High School
Beta Club
Ten members of Gunter High School's Beta Club traveled to Dallas in January to attend the 2011 State Convention.
These Beta members were privy to the messages of several speakers from across the country who consistently
encouraged them to reach for their goals and be true to themselves.
Additionally, several members participated in academic competitions. Reagan Reed represented GHS in the Creative
Writing competition, Monica Hall in Science, Braden Bardach in Spelling, Jamie Boelens in English, Matthew McMullan
in Mathematics, and Pamela Figueroa in Spanish. Matthew and Pamela each earned third place in their respective
competitions, earning them a bid to the academic competitions at the National Beta Convention in Nashville, Tennessee
this June. They are eager to represent our school. If you are interested in sponsoring these students in part or in whole,
please contact Rebecca Egger at regger@gunterisd.org .
Also attending were CJ Ateek, Anthony Franze, Lucas Hampton, and Cody Johns. GHS is proud of all of its Beta
students! A huge thanks goes to Junior Thornhill and his wife Renee, as well as Jenifer Johnson, without whom this trip
would not have been possible. Thank you also to our administration, who made easy the process to get to Convention.
Student Council
Student Council is taking a "field trip" to DFW Airport on February 9th to participate in the "Welcome Home a Hero"
event. This is actually something that happens EVERY day. DFW said that anywhere from 150 to 275 soldiers come
through DFW daily either heading out on a tour or coming home from a tour. We would love to have you involved. If you
would like your classes or families to write thank you notes, make banners or participate in some other way, we would
love to take those things with us to the airport.
One suggestion from the website is to have packets of gum. Another great suggestion is bottles of water with flavor
packets attached. If there are 200 soldiers there I promise we won't have too much. If you would like to get involved by
donating any of these items, please send them to Lindsey Bowen at Gunter High School prior to February 9.
Thanks in advance for your participation in our attempt to honor the service men and women of our great nation!
