The overall purpose of the conference is tointroduce and interest women in technology and nontraditional (for gender)occupations. Last year 275 women attended the conference where they listened toan inspirational keynote speaker, attended a variety of workshops, participated in acareer exploration experience, and watched the ever popular nontraditional fashionshow.The Center for New Direction’s mission is to assist men and women in transition toovercome personal and economic barriers to education and employment, to accesstraining programs and job opportunities, and to become personally and economicallyself-sufficient. Through the Women and Work Conference each year the Center forNew Directions is able to reach a large number of women, providing them with theknowledge and inspiration to set new career and educational goals. Many of thewomen attending the conference are single parents and/or low-income. These careerscan help lift them out of their circumstances of poverty, in which they frequently findthemselves.We are writing to request US Bank’s financial support again this year. We arerequesting a $1000 sponsorship from US Bank in order to help support the costsinvolved in such a large endeavor and to encourage participation of local lowincomewomen.
