III. jamalpurJamalpur is a district town <strong>in</strong> the northernpart of Bangladesh, located onthe Brahmaputra River, 140 km northof Dhaka. The municipality of Jamalpurwas established <strong>in</strong> 1869 andis connected by rail ways, roads andthe river with Dhaka and other partsof the country. Around 60.000 peopleare currently liv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Jamalpur, whichis an important market centre for rice,sugarcane, jute, tobacco, and mustardthat is produced <strong>in</strong> the region.The Jamalpur Municipality <strong>in</strong>cludesmore than 55 slums with a high density(2270 people per km²).
