III. jamalpurJamalpur is a district town in the northernpart of Bangladesh, located onthe Brahmaputra River, 140 km northof Dhaka. The municipality of Jamalpurwas established in 1869 andis connected by rail ways, roads andthe river with Dhaka and other partsof the country. Around 60.000 peopleare currently living in Jamalpur, whichis an important market centre for rice,sugarcane, jute, tobacco, and mustardthat is produced in the region.The Jamalpur Municipality includesmore than 55 slums with a high density(2270 people per km²).
