Chapter 3PACKAGES DEVELOPED AT UP, PHILIPPINESPackage 8: <strong>Solar</strong>-<strong>Biomass</strong> <strong>Hybrid</strong> Cabinet Dryer – FD50The <strong>Solar</strong> Laboratory at University of Philippines Diliman (UPSL/UPD) <strong>and</strong> theInstitute of Agricultural Engineering under University of Philippines Los Banos(IAE/UPLB) developed several models of renewable energy-based dryers withimproved features under the RETs in Asia program, for drying fruits, fish <strong>and</strong> herbalproducts.One of the dryers developed by IAE/UPLB was a cabinet type solar-biomass hybriddryer suitable for small-scale drying applications with a capacity of about 50kg/batch (Figure 8.1).
