Package 6: Improved <strong>Solar</strong> Tunnel DryerThe improved solar tunnel dryer consists of several flat plate air-heating solarcollector modules <strong>and</strong> drying chambers connected in series in a particular layout,thus forming a 17m long tunnel. A 370W AC exhaust fan connected at the rear endof the tunnel sucks ambient air into the tunnel. Warm, moist air leaves the tunnelthrough the exhaust fan. Figure 6.1 illustrates the improved solar tunnel dryer.Figure 6.1: Improved solar tunnel dryer(split into two parts <strong>and</strong> connected using a U-connector)Design detailsThe solar collector <strong>and</strong> drying chamber frames of the dryer are made of wood,insulated with glass wool, <strong>and</strong> glazed at the top with ordinary window glass, whichis inexpensive <strong>and</strong> readily available in the local market.
