This document provides a brief explanation ofentry into our School. If you have any further questionsplease call the Registrar, Ph: (03) 9826 0711 or email:enrol@mhs.vic.edu.au.GENERAL ENTRY POLICY FORSTUDENTS AT YEARS <strong>10</strong>, 11 & <strong>12</strong>Melbourne High School is able to admit a limited number ofstudents each year into <strong>Years</strong> <strong>10</strong>, 11 & <strong>12</strong>. Applicants shouldhave outstanding current school reports indicating excellentacademic attainment and a positive and enquiring attitude tolearning. To be eligible for entry, applicants should also haveperformed at a high level in one or more co-curricular activitiessuch as sport, music or drama. Evidence of leadership wouldalso be of benefit. It is advisable that students applying forYear <strong>10</strong> to have studied a year of one of the followinglanguages: German, French, Japanese or Indonesian.All applications will be acknowledged.UNIFORMUniform is compulsory and consists of blazer, grey trousers,green pullover, white shirt, School tie, School cap, blackshoes and grey socks. There is also an optional summeruniform.ATTENDANCESchool commences at 8.20 am and finishes at 3.00 pm onMonday and Friday. On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday8.50 am to 3.15 pm.PARENT CONTRIBUTIONSParent contributions are in the vicinity of $2000.00 annuallyfor Year <strong>10</strong> and $1600.00 annually for <strong>Years</strong> 11 and <strong>12</strong>.KEY DATESSunday 1 May 2005Information Session with the Principal and Open Day atMelbourne High School commencing at 9.30 am.Friday 19 August 2005Closing date for <strong>Years</strong> <strong>10</strong>, 11 & <strong>12</strong> applications.REGISTRATION FEEA NON-REFUNDABLE REGISTRATION FEE OF $30 IS TOBE ENCLOSED WITH THIS APPLICATION.THE WRITTEN APPLICATIONHAS FIVE SECTIONS:1 ACADEMIC RESULTSA copy of the prospective student’s full mid year report mustbe submitted with the application. Academic grades andteacher comments regarding cooperation, participation, selfmanagementand ability to meet deadlines will be considered.2 PERSONAL RESPONSEThe prospective student is asked to write his personal reasonsfor wanting to join Melbourne High School. Applicants maystate if they have applied previously.3 ACHIEVEMENTSiAcademic Achievements: where applicable, students mayinclude evidence of outstanding academic achievements.ii Co-curricular Achievements: this section requiresprospective students to highlight the co-curricularactivities that he undertakes in his current school or localcommunity. This may include statements regardingmusic, sport, leadership and cultural activities.One photocopy per academic and co-curricularachievement should be provided as evidence.4 FAMILY ASSOCIATIONS WITHMELBOURNE HIGH SCHOOLIf there is a current or past association with the School, studentscan detail this here.
