The Training section is number 09.Expenses ClaimsIn-service training opportunities are provided free of charge to staff working forthe Service (as are most of those courses provided through Dorset County Council’sLearning and Development Team and IT Services).Assistance with costs for external courses and conferences, where available andapproved via a YS/T1 form, will normally include course/conference fees and travelexpenses, to be claimed at the training rate and where car-sharing regulations havebeen applied.Assistance with post-entry qualifications and accredited courses, where available andapproved via a YS/T1 form, will normally cover all or part of tuition fees, registrationand examination costs, travel expenses and purchase of books.Travel ClaimsDorset Youth and Community Service Staff attending training events approved bythe Service can claim travel expenses – up to an agreed maximum, where travel issubstantial. Forms can be obtained from Youth Service HQ or from your Line Manager.In the interests of economy, staff will be required to share transport, wherever possible.Expected/Required Attendance at Training EventsIf you are required, or you have been invited to attend a particular training event, youwill be expected to inform your line manager of any difficulties you have in attending,as soon as you are aware of them. You will also need to inform Nic White (YouthService Training Administrative Assistant) on 01305 254013 that you will not beattending. If there is a cost for the course and you do not let us know that you willnot be attending, you may be liable to pay for your place on the course.If you have applied to attend a specific event/training course and at a later date discoverthat you are unable to attend, please inform Nic White as soon as possible.This will assist us in a number of ways:l To enable someone else to be offered your place;l To enable us to cancel or postpone a course with sufficient notice;l To avoid the unnecessary expense of paying a full fee for non-attendance.5
How to Apply for a Training or StaffDevelopment ActivityTo make an application you should:l Discuss the relevance of the training and development activity with your linemanager.l Enlist his or her support in your request by asking them to complete the supportingstatement on the appropriate YS/T1 application form.(The training ‘YS/T1’ form is located at the back of this brochure and should beused for all training applications, as it assists with the training records for everyindividual member of staff, including volunteers).l Send your completed YS/T1 forms to Raj Lehal, Youth and Community ServiceManager for Training and Staff Development.l All requests must be received at HQ no later than two weeks before the closing date(Unless otherwise stated).l In the event of a line manager not supporting your application, you should beadvised of their reason. You have the right to appeal to a more senior manager ifyou are not happy with the decision they have taken.For substantial and open learning courses relating to post-entry qualifications,completed application forms, including line manager’s supporting statement, shouldbe received by HQ for consideration by March 31st of the financial year prior tocommencement of the course.A Training and Development activity will only be supported and funded provided theapplication form has been fully completed and returned to the Youth and CommunityService Training Manager no later than 2 weeks before the start of the event. Any costincurred without full approval will be the responsibility of the individual.6
