VRQ Level 3 Diploma in Youth WorkThe Level 3 qualification is designed for Youth Support Workers who are required totake responsibility for areas of their work, including specialist tasks associated with, forexample Street-Based Youth Work, Information, Advice & Guidance and Project Workat a level more demanding than at Level 2. The award is also designed for those postsin which workers are required to supervise the work of small teams of other paid andvoluntary staff.The Level 3 Diploma Course covers the following 8 units:UnitThe unit will explore the following:1 Youth work and informal l Informal education concepts and frameworks mosteducationfrequently used in youth work settingsl Working with young people to reflect on and recordtheir learningl Different styles of learning – giving and receiving feedback2 Assessing needs in l The factors that impact on young people’s needsyouth workl Planning and promoting youth work opportunities tomeet these needs3 Planning and delivering l The need for learning outcomesyouth workl Different styles of leadershipl How to plan and evaluate sessions4 Evaluating and reviewing l Different styles of evaluationyouth workl Using evaluation results to inform Service planningl Involving young people in evaluation5 Group work in youth work l An understanding of group roles and group dynamicsl Using group work as a key element of working withyoung peoplel Challenging unacceptable behaviour in groups6 Values and ethics in l The importance of values and ethics in youth workyouth workl The core values of youth workl Building up young people’s self esteem and self imagel Communications skills7 Working in organisations l The purpose, structure and workings of organisationsand teamsl The importance of the differing roles in teamworkl The importance of supervisionl Policies and procedures in youth work8 Working with partner l The range of organisations involved in young people’sorganisations andpersonal and social development and the contributionscommunitiesthey makel Developing relationships with community groups andother agencies in a local areaA minimum of 240 guided learning hours are necessary for the satisfactory completionof the Level 3 qualification, this is broken down as follows:l Training workshops (approx) 48 hrsl Placement hours (approx) 120 hrsl Tutorial hours with training supervisor (approx) 12 hrsl Supervision sessions with Line Manager (approx) 8 hrsl Portfolio Building (approx) 52 hours13
Level 3 Training WorkshopsA large part of the youth work training is delivered through Training Workshops whichparticipants on the VRQ Youth Work Qualification are required to attend. Payment willbe made for attendance at these workshops.These training workshops are however open to any other youth worker (full or part time,paid or unpaid) who would like to attend.
