Meeting MinutesMINUTES OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING ANDDISTRICT ADVISORY GROUP MEETINGOctober 23, 2006<strong>The</strong> Executive Committee and District Advisory Group of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Music Association metat 8:30 a.m., October 23, 2006, in Boone, IA. Members of the Executive Committee present were: TomDannen, Leon; Tom Nugent, <strong>No</strong>rthwood; Mark Lehmann, Waverly; Todd Lettow, <strong>No</strong>ra <strong>Spring</strong>s; LeonKuehner, Hampton; and Jan Merz, Fort Dodge. Members of the District Advisory Group present were:John Long, Victor; David Heupel, Jefferson; Tom Gerking, Sloan; and Jim Fritz, Decorah. Absent wereRoark Horn, Blairsburg; and Don Struve, Manning. Also in attendance was Alan Greiner, ExecutiveDirector, who served as the recording secretary. President Lehmann chaired the meeting.A brief introduction of members present was held. Tom Nugent described the roles and responsibilitiesof Executive Board members and Tom Dannen described the roles and responsibilities of the DistrictAdvisory Group members.Director Greiner provided a report on the outcome of the Fall Election for Executive Committee. ToddLettow was re-elected to the Executive Committee, Term Expiring in 2011. Roark Horn, Blairsburg –Administrative Representative; Tom Gerking, Sloan – Vocal Representative; and Jim Fritz, Decorah –Instrumental Representative were each elected to the District Advisory Group, Terms Expiring 2009.MMS (KUEHNER/DANNEN) to approve the Election Report as presented. PASSEDMMS (MERZ/LETTOW) to approve the minutes of the July 2, 2006 meeting. PASSEDMMS(MERZ/KUEHNER) to approve the financial bills as submitted. PASSEDJames Henkel from Henkel and Associates, P.C. was present to provide an annual audit report. Duringthis report Mr. Henkel advised the development of a Conflict of Interest Policy for the IHSMAExecutive Committee. MMS (NUGENT/KUEHNER) adopt the sample policy as provided by Henkeland Associates pending approval by legal counsel. PASSEDALL-STATE MUSIC FESTIVAL: Director Greiner presented the registration report for the 2006festival. Participation levels have increased in the wind/percussion areas, but have decreased in thevocal, string and piano areas. <strong>The</strong> overall registration numbers have decreased fifty-seven entries. <strong>The</strong>director provided a 5-year registration comparison. Work details and motel assignments weredetermined. MMS (NUGENT/LETTOW) to approve Ron Coberley, New London; Marsha KronNichols, Dunkerton; William “Bill” Hott, Lake View; Gary Fiscus, Council Bluffs; Dr. Phil Delong,Indianola; Teri Emberton, Hamburg; Deb Ragan, Bettendorf; and Rich Dewein, West Des Moines asTeacher Tenure Award candidates for this year. PASSED Director Greiner presented the T-shirt, video,and CD sales procedures to be used in Ames. <strong>The</strong> director presented a progress report on the 61 stAnnual Festival. MMS (NUGENT/MERZ) to approve the IPTV Broadcast sponsors as submitted.PASSED <strong>The</strong> All-State Discipline Hearing policy and All-State Festival Rules were presented anddiscussed. MMS (MERZ/DANNEN) to approve adding a brief Public Service Announcement46
