SOLO/SMALL ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL REGULATIONS1) ELIGIBILITYA) In addition to IHSMA Constitution Article VI, Section 1 (Fall <strong>Bulletin</strong>, <strong>No</strong>. 229, p. 44),participation is restricted to students from member schools of the <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>Music Association and enrolled in grades 7-12 only. Participating students must be ingood standing in their school and currently enrolled and eligible in the respectiveensemble eligible for participation in the Large Group Music Festival (i.e.,wind/percussion - concert band or orchestra; vocal - mixed chorus/treble clefchorus/bass clef chorus; strings - orchestra). To be considered a member of therespective ensemble, a student must be enrolled and in attendance at a minimum of50% of the scheduled rehearsal sessions. Accompanists need not be members of thelarge ensemble. Membership in large ensembles is required for all school districtswhere such ensembles exist. (see Article VI of the Constitution.) Pupils below 9th grademay compete in ensemble events; however, it must be understood that a majority (50%)of the ensemble must be of at least 9th grade status. Pupils below 9th grade are NOTpermitted solo performances at this event.2) REGISTRATIONA) Registration for this festival will be online. Instructions for registering online will beavailable on the IHSMA website.B) FEE: $9.00 per entry, solo or ensemble. All registration fees are to be sent to Alan S.Greiner, Executive Director, <strong>Iowa</strong> <strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong> Music Association, P.O. Box 10, Boone,<strong>Iowa</strong> 50036-0010.C) Registrations must be completed by the established deadlines. Purchase Orders will beaccepted. <strong>No</strong> registration fees will be returned or refunded under any circumstanceafter the registration deadline has passed for Solo/Small Ensemble Festival. Changesin registration will be accepted, without penalty, through the penalty deadlinedate by notifying the IHSMA office, in writing, of the correction. Changes inregistration after the penalty deadline will be accepted provided the school pays apenalty of twice the registration fee ($18 per entry). Additions in registration willbe accepted after the penalty deadline but will carry an additional penalty ofdouble the registration fee. Example: one additional entry would cost $9.00 (originalregistration fee) + $4.50 (50% late penalty up to $25) + $18.00 (additional penalty afterpenalty deadline (double registration fee) = $31.50 per entry. Failure by memberschools to abide by their registration form and the established rules of the Associationwill result in disqualification of the entries involved and a letter of reprimand to theadministration of that school, directing communication with the involved director. Eachschool will be responsible for payment for the events registered plus any penaltiesincurred.D) <strong>The</strong> previous registration limitations associated with this festival have been removed.<strong>School</strong>s are permitted unlimited registration into this festival.E) A student is permitted only one vocal solo performance. Instrumentally, a student ispermitted multiple solo performances provided they change instrument and selection foreach registered entry.F) <strong>The</strong> “initial” schedule will be available online shortly after the penalty postmark deadline.It is IMPERATIVE that involved staff jointly decide upon the location of their variousperformances and submit online or return the initial schedule to the IHSMA office by thespecified date.22
