Walking the Trail<strong>John</strong> <strong>Martin</strong> Heritage TrailNorthern Sectioni= Information panelWestHaydonFarmEastHaydonFarmHaydon Old ChurchThe <strong>John</strong> <strong>Martin</strong> Heritage Trail is in two circularsections centred on Haydon Bridge. Both routes begin atthe Library in Church Street.Northern Section, to Haydon Old Church(marked on map to right).This part of the trail is about 2 miles and takes justover an hour.Grade : easy - moderate walk.Southern Section to Allen Banks, Staward Pele andLangley Castle (marked on map overleaf).A walk of about 10 miles taking 5 – 6 hours to complete.Grade : moderate walk with some steep ascents/descents.Appropriate outdoor clothing, stout footwear and 0Smap Explorer OL43 or Landranger 87 are essential.Caution• Many paths are uneven and some are wet andslippery, particularly after rain.• Stock grazing in many fields; bulls may be present.• There are many steep slopes and cliffs, particularlyin the Allen Banks and Staward Gorge area.• Beware of traffic, including large farm vehicles, oncountry lanes and on the A686 at Langley Castleand Esp Hill.Be aware of the many risks and dangers present ona country walk.People walking the <strong>John</strong> <strong>Martin</strong> Heritage Trail do soat their own risk.HaydonOld ChurchThe ToftsHaydon BridgeiiiiPage CroftWest MillHillsRiver South TyneMap © Crown copyright 2002.
