For the last decade he has focused on creating,identifying, providing and maintaining crucial 21 st century tools and sites that help retool psychologists and otherpr<strong>of</strong>essionals and to empower them to locate and develop new opportunities in consulting, business and clinicalsettings. <strong>Dr</strong>. <strong>Wexler</strong> managed departments and personnel on both corporate and field levels before creating PSI in1984. PSI provides 21st century talent management, business development, social network assessment anddevelopment, web 2.0 applications and consulting tools for psychologists, leaders and organizations worldwide. <strong>Dr</strong>.<strong>Wexler</strong> is also the author <strong>of</strong> a number <strong>of</strong> management systems books and articles that have helped executivesunderstand the value <strong>of</strong> consulting with psychologists for workplace success. Publications include Prentice Hall's (laterMacmillan's) annually updated "Personnel Policies Workbook", "Work and Family Life", “Aids In The Workplace”, "AidsIn The Workplace: A Manager’s Guide", “Effective Succession Planning”, “The Emotional Stability Components <strong>of</strong> HumanPerformance Problems”, “Personnel Policy Workbook Supplements”, and co-author <strong>of</strong> "Life Management". He has alsohelped to educate managers and organizations regarding the value <strong>of</strong> psychology by helping them hire and developthousands <strong>of</strong> people using well established psychological tools and procedures, and promoting psychologically healthyworkplaces by helping to develop hundreds <strong>of</strong> policies and manuals for organizations (including the American ExpressHuman Resources Policy Manual.)He received four graduate degrees: a Ph.D. in Psychology from Columbia University; a M.Ph. in Psychology fromTeachers College, Columbia University, specializing in assessment, tests and measurement; two M.A. degrees inPsychology, one from TC, Columbia University, and one from the New School for Social Research. He also receivedcertification in psychoanalytic psychotherapy from New York State following completion <strong>of</strong> a three-year program inpsychoanalytic psychotherapy at Washington Square Institute for Psychotherapy & Mental Health.<strong>Richard</strong> <strong>Wexler</strong> has had the honor to serve our pr<strong>of</strong>ession in several ways including the following:• <strong>President</strong> <strong>of</strong> the NY State Psychological Association 2009o wore two hats as both NYSPA <strong>President</strong> and occasionally as acting Executive Director, due to resignation<strong>of</strong> ED in middle <strong>of</strong> year,o helped to establish and develop a NYSPA division focused on the next generation <strong>of</strong> psychologists, theFund Raising and Marketing Committee and the Strategic Planning committee; a task force to improvecommunication and relationships between regions, divisions and NYSPA; an effective Co-Chair systemfor some <strong>of</strong> our larger committees; improved relationships with APA; a greatly strengthened lobbyistfunction to support NYSPA; helped to revamp and update electronic communication systems at NYSPA(e.g. discussion boards, web sites, podcasts, etc.);focused on greater inclusion <strong>of</strong> early careerpsychologists and newly involved established psychologists with NYPSA, greater networking within andbetween NYSPA groups and with outside organizations that share our concerns improved workingrelationships with the media; lead the Executive Council in another search for an Executive Director toserve NYSPA.• Past <strong>President</strong> and currently <strong>President</strong> Elect <strong>of</strong> the Organization, Consulting and Work (OCW) PsychologyDivision <strong>of</strong> NYSPA. Helped to revamp OCW after years <strong>of</strong> relative inactivity.• Serves on the Board <strong>of</strong> the Manhattan Psychological Association, OCW Division <strong>of</strong> NYSPA and on NYSPA Council• Received the <strong>President</strong>ial Award from NYSPA in 2005 for work volunteered to the organization.• Received the Distinguished Service Award from NYSPA in 2006.• SPTA delegate for NY for the 2009 APA Summit on Future <strong>of</strong> Psychology Practice• Recent presentations designed to provide new opportunities for 21 st century psychologists by understandingand adapting new technologies to psychology include chairing a 2009 APA Plenary Program “21st CenturyPsychology without Boundaries: Virtual Environment Technology Applications and Implications”; chairing a 2010APA program on similar topics, a 2011 program at the New York Academy <strong>of</strong> Sciences, and several programsscheduled for this spring and summer.


• Leadership and Team Development Consultant to two NYSPA <strong>President</strong>s (2005 and 2006 and OrganizationDevelopment Consultant to the Executive Council (2007), and attended Executive Committee and councilmeetings in that capacity.• Developed the Leadership and Team Development Initiative Programs for NYSPA donating hundreds <strong>of</strong> hours <strong>of</strong>pr<strong>of</strong>essional time to develop a one-and-a-half day leadership-training program for NYSPA psychologists, withhalf-day follow-ups every 3 months. 50 psychologists attended the program, which resulted in a number <strong>of</strong>significant changes in NYSPA.• Developed the Train-the-Trainers program to train 25 NYSPA leaders to become leadership trainers to helpfacilitate NYSPA Division and Region projects. 25 psychologists attended the one and a half day program inSeptember 2006.• Developed and presented a one-and-a-half day training program for NYSPA administrative staff to promoteteamwork.• Spearheaded committee to help train and provide credentials for psychologists in Executive Coaching.• Served on Executive Board <strong>of</strong> the Forensic Psychology Division; volunteered time to help create this division.• Served as Acting Counsel Representative for the Rockland Psychological Association• Served on the Referral Service Committee for several years. Helped to update the referral service system byassisting in the development <strong>of</strong> new areas <strong>of</strong> interest (e.g. work related) to help psychologists find newopportunities for pr<strong>of</strong>essional growth and income, and helped to modify the latest brochure for the referralservice.• Serve on the Public Education Campaign Committee (PECC)• Media ambassador for Public Relations Committee• Belongs to a number <strong>of</strong> NYSPA Divisions, including but not limited to: Industrial, organization & Personnel;Independent Practice; Forensic Psychology; Psychologists-Psychoanalysts; Division <strong>of</strong> Women’s Issues;Manhattan Psychological Association• Presented overviews <strong>of</strong> team development and management training programs to NYSPA counsel and othergroups• Served as one <strong>of</strong> 3 key judges in 2009 and Team Leader in 2007 for Psychologically Healthy Workplace AwardsProject and was one <strong>of</strong> two key presenters at the May 2005 awards ceremony in NY for the psychologicallyHealthy Workplace.• Co-presented leadership development program at APA Annual 2006 conference in New Orleans for all APAsocieties to share NYSPA initiatives and lessons learned for leadership and team development
