Wastewater assets include 191km of pipes, 2,789 manholes, 9 treatment plants and 79pumping stations. The depreciated replacement cost of these assets is $51,320,801. 242Waipa District <strong>Council</strong>Water supply assets include seven treatment plants, 10 booster stations, 13Reservoirs, two bores, four pipe bridges and 502km of reticulation. 243 The currentreplacement value of this infrastructure is $119.581 million and Waipa District <strong>Council</strong>has earmarked $53.6 million in investment in the infrastructure for the ten year periodup to the 2018/19 financial year. 244Stormwater assets consist of 123km of pipes, 2,212 manholes and other relatedstructures such as open drains, streams, swales, soak systems and retentionstructures. 245 Assets range from new to 80 years of age, with the majority of thereticulation schemes in Cambridge and Te Awamutu being constructed of reinforcedconcrete in the 1970–1980 period. Based on pipe age, material and some fieldinspections, most of the pipes in the network are in “fair condition” with some pipes in“poor to very poor condition”. A renewal programme to maintain the condition of thestormwater assets is included in the 2009-19 Long Term <strong>Council</strong> Community Plan. 246Waipa District <strong>Council</strong> provides a reticulated wastewater service to 10,749 connectedproperties in the townships of Cambridge, Karapiro, Te Awamutu and Kihikihi. Thesewer mains have been identified as nearing the end of their operational life andrenewal of these is required to reduce the risk of groundwater entering the system andcausing sewer overflows in winter. Expenditure on sewer main renewals for the 10years of the 2009-19 Long Term <strong>Council</strong> Community Plan is $15.2 million. 247The wastewater treatment plant performance, as a whole, is also being reviewed and amajor upgrade ($15.2 million) of the plant is scheduled for years three and four of the2009-19 Long Term <strong>Council</strong> Community Plan. Approximately 30 per cent of thisupgrade can be attributed to meeting future growth requirements, including CambridgeNorth, St Kilda and Titanium Park. The plant will be designed to service a populationequivalent to 30,000 people (this is a mix of residential, commercial and industrial). 248Waitomo District <strong>Council</strong>Public water supply schemes are provided by the Waitomo District <strong>Council</strong> at Te Kuiti,Benneydale, Piopio and Mokau. 249Stormwater assets, located mainly in the townships of Te Kuiti and Piopio, consist of adisposal network made up of open drains and some piped reticulation with associatedstructures.
