Dairy product manufacturing is moretightly clustered than dairy farmingand occurs in only 19 out of the 200area-units in the <strong>Waikato</strong> region.Matamata-Piako district has thehighest number of dairymanufacturing employees (1,060)and the highest proportion of thelabour force employed in dairymanufacturing (8.2 per cent), asshown in figure 26.Figure 26: Location quotient and employees –dairy product manufacturingMeat product manufacturing is alsolimited to a small number of sitesthroughout the region, as shown infigure 27.Matamata-Piako district has the largestnumber of employees (1,560) and thehighest location quotient is Waitomodistrict, where 15.7 per cent of thelabour force is employed in meatmanufacturing.Excluding dairy and meat productmanufacturing, food and beveragemanufacturing has a relatively lowlocation quotient in the <strong>Waikato</strong> region,as shown in figures 28 and 29. It is,however, a more significant industry inThames-Coromandel district,particularly in Whitianga.
