This could indicatethat the <strong>Waikato</strong> region is very susceptible to the effect of recessions and periods ofhigh growth or be explicable by events outside normal cycles, e.g. new firm openingsand redundancies from firm closures etc. Unemployment in the region has tended to belower than Auckland but higher than Wellington and Canterbury.
