Technology both value and undertake research extensively and the <strong>Waikato</strong> region hasa strong presence of primary sector-focused Crown Research Institutes. Businessdevelopment and growth is supported by government agencies such as the Ministry ofBusiness, Innovation and Employment, New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and TePuni Kōkiri (Ministry of Māori Development), science and technology parks focused onprimary industries and clean energy, and business incubators focused on weightless,AgBio, biotechnology and information and communications technology sectors.11.2 EducationIn the <strong>Waikato</strong> region there are 452 early childhood education providers, 253 primary tointermediate schools and 56 secondary schools (including composite schools). Thesole university is the University of <strong>Waikato</strong>, with 12,800 enrolments. The <strong>Waikato</strong>Institute of Technology (Wintec) has a similar number of enrolments, 12,300. TeWānanga O Aotearoa, with 36,000 enrolments, is the third largest education institute inNew Zealand after the University of Auckland and the Open Polytechnic.
