The notable differences are that there is a higherproportion of managers in the <strong>Waikato</strong> region, 22 per cent compared with 17 per centfor the national average, but a lower proportion of professionals.Figure 93: Occupations of <strong>Waikato</strong> and New Zealand residents (2006 Census)As one might expect, the occupation structure is asymmetrical among territorialauthorities within the region. The larger, more urban centres have higher proportions ofprofessionals and service workers while the greater number of rural districts havehigher proportions of agriculture and fisheries workers. The region as a whole,therefore, has a fairly balanced occupation structure, as shown in figure 94.Page 84 Doc #: 2069885
