It wouldn’tsurprise me <strong>in</strong> the least if one <strong>of</strong> the studentsbenefit<strong>in</strong>g from your generosity will someday beMark Dunkerley is be<strong>in</strong>g honoredwith the TIM <strong>School</strong>’s <strong>Legacy</strong> <strong>in</strong><strong>Tourism</strong> award and it’s easy tounderstand why. Everyone knowshow important Hawaiian Airl<strong>in</strong>es isto Hawai‘i’s tourism <strong>in</strong>dustry andkeep<strong>in</strong>g our islands connected.When Mark jo<strong>in</strong>ed Hawaiian <strong>in</strong>2003, the airl<strong>in</strong>e was fac<strong>in</strong>genormous economic challenges,requir<strong>in</strong>g a strategic focus on its future. Weall know the story s<strong>in</strong>ce then. With Mark atthe controls and guid<strong>in</strong>g the way, Hawaiian’sworkforce has lifted the airl<strong>in</strong>e up to become thebest <strong>in</strong> the <strong>in</strong>dustry. (TIMI) is the alumni association forthe University <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i at Mānoa, <strong>School</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Travel</strong> <strong>Industry</strong>Management and chapter <strong>of</strong> the University <strong>of</strong> Hawai‘i AlumniAssociation (UHAA). Like many othertourism pr<strong>of</strong>essionals, he saw the <strong>School</strong> as anopportunity to become even more successful.What a superb endorsement <strong>of</strong> the TIM <strong>School</strong>’svalue! Joseph is be<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>ducted <strong>in</strong>to the TIMAlumni Hall <strong>of</strong> Honor and this is a tribute thatis richly deserved.The TIM <strong>School</strong> Advisory Board is comprised <strong>of</strong>Hawai‘i’s top leaders <strong>in</strong> bus<strong>in</strong>ess and tourism.We work <strong>in</strong> different <strong>in</strong>dustries and sometimesf<strong>in</strong>d that we are compet<strong>in</strong>g for the same<strong>in</strong>terests.
