In this case, you will require a creditcard to complete your transaction.Instructions for Enrolling OnlineStep 1: Course SelectionGo to Courses and Programs.Choose your courses using the Course Search tool or bybrowsing Courses by Subject or Areas of Interest.To view course details and availability, click on a courselink (e.g., CACC 100 – Introductory Financial Accounting).“Add to cart” will appear next to available scheduling options.To add a course to your shopping cart, click the “Add tocart” button. Selecting courses in different terms will resultin one shopping cart per term. Click “View cart” to see asummary of the contents in each of your shopping carts.Step 2: Checking-Out Your Shopping CartClick “Checkout” on the associated shopping cart. A screenlisting the courses in your shopping cart will appear.To remove a course from the shopping cart, click “remove.”<strong>The</strong> shopping cart page will refresh and remove that courseoffering from your list.To add another course to the cart before checking out,click “Find another course” to browse for more courses. Noinformation will be lost from your cart while you search.To enroll and pay for the contents of the shopping cart,click “Enroll.”To continue the enrollment process, click “Proceed.”Step 3: Logging in to RAMSSAfter clicking “Proceed,” a window will open to transmit yourshopping cart to <strong>Ryerson</strong> University’s registration system,RAMSS (located at my.ryerson.ca). If a Security Alert screenappears, asking for permission to proceed, click “Yes” or thewindow will close and your shopping cart will be emptied.Next, log-in to my.ryerson.ca by entering your <strong>Ryerson</strong> OnlineIdentity and password. Click “Login.”Notes: RAMSS underwent a system upgrade in November,2011, and it is critical that you clear your browser cache andcookies before accessing RAMSS on each computer you use.When you click on the RAMSS tab in my.ryerson.ca,RAMSS will open in a new window. If your browser haspop-up windows blocked, you will need to choose the option“always allow pop-ups for this site” in order for RAMSS toopen. Note that your my.ryerson session will remain activein the original window.If you do not have an Online Identity, you will not be ableto proceed with online enrollment. Upon return to the <strong>Chang</strong><strong>School</strong> website your shopping cart will be emptied. If youcan’t remember your Online Identity password click “Can’tlogin?” then “<strong>Student</strong>s” to reset your password.Step 4: Confirming Your Course Selection<strong>The</strong> classes from the term-specific shopping cart are nowdisplayed in RAMSS. You will have 20 minutes to completeyour enrollment. Click the “Enrollment Shopping Cart” tocontinue. <strong>The</strong>n select your terms.Select the course and click “enroll.” Proceed to step 3 of4. RAMSS will indicate if there are any problems preventingyour enrollment.Step 5: Payment for Your CourseReview the summary on the Enrollment Confirmation screen,which includes all course fees applicable to your transaction.Enter your credit card details and click “make a payment.”If you do not complete this step, or if the credit card paymentcannot be processed, your enrollment transaction will becancelled.A confirmation screen appears indicating that the paymentand enrollment was successful. Once you receive theconfirmation, you may continue to use RAMSS or you mayreturn to the <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> website by closing the my.ryerson.cabrowser window. If you had multiple shopping carts, repeatsteps 2-5 for each one.Please bring a copy of your RAMSS enrollment to your firstclass and have it available for the duration of your course(s).<strong>Student</strong>s not actually enrolled in a course are not permittedto attend class.In-Person EnrollmentYou can add, swap, and drop courses in person.Instructions for Enrolling in Person1. Read the course description(s) carefully to ensure thatthe course(s) you wish to enroll in does not require aninterview, a placement assessment, or any prerequisitesthat you have not taken. In-person enrollments willnot be accepted for courses requiring an interview orplacement assessment that has not been completed.2. Complete and submit the In-person Enrollment formavailable at Enrollment Services and <strong>Student</strong> Fees(Podium, lower ground floor, room POD64, 350 VictoriaStreet). Should I register in a certificate program as well as in mychosen courses?On your resumé, saying that you have successfully completeda certificate in a coherent program of study can crediblydemonstrate a fully developed skill. If you’re pretty sure youwould like to complete a certificate, it’s wise to register assoon as possible. See Registration in a Certificate Programfor more information.One other advantage of being a certificate student is thatyou will have priority enrollment privileges in the future. Thismeans that before each new term, for a specified period oftime, certificate students are able to enroll in courses beforeany other new or returning students. Also, only courses takenAFTER registration in the certificate will be included in yourgrade point average (GPA), although you will still receivecredit for any previous courses you’ve taken.You MUST register in a certificate program before youfinish 50 percent of the program’s course requirements.16. How can I find out where my classes will be held?Look up the location of your classroom and your instructor’sname on Classroom Lookup (Note: locations are not finalizeduntil 3:00 p.m. the first day of class). On the evening of yourfirst class of the term, lists of the locations of all classesto be held that night will be posted in the lobbies of theLibrary Building and Heaslip House. Please note your sectionnumber to avoid going to the wrong room. It’s a good ideato arrive on campus 10 or 15 minutes earlier than normalthat night because you might spend a little time finding yourclassroom.17. How can I find out which texts to buy?On the first night of class, your instructor will provide acourse outline detailing course content, assignments,evaluation break-down, and a list of the required texts andmaterials. Often during this first class, time is taken out toensure you can get to the <strong>Ryerson</strong> University Campus Storethat evening before it closes. This has resulted in a number of other changesat <strong>Ryerson</strong> and <strong>The</strong> <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong>.1. What is a “12-week term”?A 12-week term consists of 12 weeks of classroom sessions,with an additional week set aside at the end of the term forthe final examination or other final assignments.2. How many course hours will the 12-week term involve?Course durations will be adjusted to match the new 13-weekschedule. For example, 56-hour courses will become 52-hourcourses, 42-hour courses will become 39-hour courses, and21-hour courses will become 19.5-hour courses. For information on fee and immigration categories,visit Fees and Finances.To claim exemption, you must take your original documentto the Enrollment Services and <strong>Student</strong> Fees office, Podium,lower ground floor, room POD64, 350 Victoria Street, whenyou enroll in your courses. This must be the documentissued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada; a lawyer’sdocumentation is not acceptable.International <strong>Student</strong>s Fee Rate<strong>The</strong> fees quoted online are in Canadian funds and are theRegular Fee Rate. <strong>The</strong> International Fee Rate for continuingeducation students is two and a half (2.5) times the regularstudent tuition fee for credit courses. <strong>The</strong> International Feeapplies to degree credit courses only.How to Calculate the International Fee1. Start with the course fee and subtract the ancillary feesand the material fee (where applicable). <strong>The</strong> material feewill be stated in a note following the course description.Please note that all Business courses are subject to a $10($10.50 for ITM students) material fee even though thisis not noted in individual course descriptions. <strong>The</strong> resultis the regular tuition fee.2. Multiply this amount by two and a half (2.5), and theresult is the tuition portion of the international fee.3. Once the tuition portion is calculated, add back theancillary fees and the material fee, where applicable.<strong>The</strong> result is the total international fee payable foryour course. (Non-Tuition Related Fees and ServiceCharges provides more information about ancillaryand material fees.)Financial Assistance<strong>Ryerson</strong> University is currently unable to offer financialassistance to international continuing education students.All international students are encouraged to explore homegovernment or private sources of funding prior to arrivingin Canada.Letters of Permission<strong>Student</strong>s formally registered in a certificate program whowish to take courses at another accredited post-secondaryinstitution for credit toward their <strong>Ryerson</strong> certificate mustapply for a Letter of Permission. Applications for letters ofpermission are available at www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/forms. <strong>Student</strong>s are responsible for making formal applicationto the institution where they intend to study. Transfer Creditis recorded on the <strong>Ryerson</strong> academic record as CRT and isnot included in the calculation of the student’s grade pointaverage.Courses from accredited universities are considered forTransfer Credit when successfully completed with a grade of60 percent or higher (where 60 percent equals ‘C-’).Courses from accredited colleges and institutions oftechnology may be considered for Transfer Credit whencompleted with a grade 70 percent or higher (where 70percent equals ‘B-’).Upon completion of the course(s), students are requiredto complete a “Transfer Credit Application Form” availableat www.ryerson.ca/currentstudents/forms and provide anofficially certified transcript of final results. No more than atotal of 50 percent of a program’s requirements may consist ofChallenge Credits, credits granted on a Letter of Permission,and Transfer Credits.Undergraduate <strong>Student</strong>sUndergraduate <strong>Student</strong>s Pursuing a Certificate Program<strong>Student</strong>s enrolled in a degree program and pursuing a<strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> certificate should ensure that their courseenrollments are within the appropriate career, otherwiseall courses taken under the undergraduate career will beautomatically used towards the degree CGPA, and not thecertificate program CGPA. Courses taken or enrolled inthrough the Undergraduate career (cross-enrollment) maybe used to meet certificate requirements; however, the gradesin these courses will not be included in Continuing Educationcareer CGPA.Calculation of a GPA for graduation in a certificate programwill be manually calculated, if necessary, by the CurriculumAdvising office prior to graduation and will be based ongrades in courses applicable to the certificate’s curriculumrequirements.Please Note: <strong>Ryerson</strong>’s residency requirement states thatat least 50 percent of the courses used to meet certificatecurriculum requirements must be completed through <strong>The</strong>G. Raymond <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> of Continuing Education, ascontinuing education offerings.Undergraduate <strong>Student</strong>s Considering<strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> StudiesSome certificates are not available to students enrolled incertain degree programs. PoliciesRegistration in andGraduation from aCertificate ProgramRegistration in a Certificate ProgramAll students intending to graduate from a certificate programare required to register in the program and to achieve andmaintain a minimum level of academic performance. <strong>Ryerson</strong>policies on enrollment, grading, and graduation define theminimum level of acceptable academic performance requiredto graduate and apply to all certificate programs.<strong>Student</strong>s may be registered in only one certificate programat any one time. Each application, either for certificateregistration or for transfer into a different certificate program,requires the submission of a new “<strong>Chang</strong> Certificate Reg/Trnsfr” request (online through RAMSS) in advance of thepublished application deadline. <strong>The</strong>re is no registration/transfer fee for certificate applications.Applications received after the published deadlines willbe applied to the term directly following and the student’sregistration in the certificate will not take effect until thatterm. For example, if you enroll in certificate courses in theFall term, but do not submit your “<strong>Chang</strong> Certificate Reg/Trnsfr” request until after the Fall deadline, your registrationin the certificate program will take effect in the Winter term.This means any applicable certificate courses you successfullycompleted in the Fall term will count as credit towards yourcertificate graduation requirements (up to a maximumof 50 percent), however, they will not be included in yourcumulative grade point average (CGPA).Items Required for RegistrationTo register in a certificate program, continuing educationstudents must have the following:▸▸A valid <strong>Ryerson</strong> University <strong>Student</strong> ID▸▸An active <strong>Ryerson</strong> Online Identity and password▸▸If you have a student email account at <strong>Ryerson</strong>University, then you have a <strong>Ryerson</strong> Online Identity. Ifyou can’t remember your password, or if you need toactivate your account, visit my.ryerson.ca, click “Log intomy.ryerson” and then “Can’t login?”▸▸If you don’t have a <strong>Ryerson</strong> Online Identity, you can getone by submitting a request at www.ryerson.ca/accounts.Registration ProceduresYou must register in the certificate program prior tothe completion of 50 percent of the requirements for thecertificate. Failure to register by this time could adverselyaffect your graduation and your GPA calculation, i.e., bydelaying your gradua<strong>The</strong> following steps must be taken whenapplying to register in each <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> certificate program:1. Check the Curriculum Advising website for anyregistration restrictions.2. Consult Important Dates for application deadlines.3. Review the certificate program to determine if youmeet the admission requirements and/or if you requiredepartmental approval prior to registration in yourprogram. Some certificate programs require you toobtain departmental approval prior to registration inthe program. You may obtain the appropriate “ProgramPre-approval Form” from Forms and Documents. Youmust submit your pre-approval confirmation code withyour online registration.4. If you have a <strong>Ryerson</strong> <strong>Student</strong> ID and an active <strong>Ryerson</strong>Online Identity, register in a certificate program onlinein your RAMSS <strong>Student</strong> Centre by clicking “<strong>Chang</strong>Certificate Reg/Trnsfr”. If you are a new studentand need a <strong>Ryerson</strong> <strong>Student</strong> ID, or you are returningto <strong>Ryerson</strong> and need your <strong>Student</strong> ID reactivated,visit Request or Reactivate a <strong>Student</strong> ID. If you can’tremember your password, visit my.ryerson.ca, click“Can’t login?” and then “<strong>Student</strong>s” to reset yourpassword.Note: Each application requires the submission of a new“Certificate Registration/Transfer Form”. <strong>The</strong>re is no feeto apply.5. If your application is accepted, confirmation will beissued within three business days for your onlineregistration (this timeline may be extended during peakperiods such as the start and end of term). You may visitmy.ryerson.ca to confirm the status of your application.<strong>Student</strong>s have two options as to when to register in a certificateprogram:Option 1: Register in the certificate prior to enrolling in thefirst course taken in the certificateThis option provides maximum flexibility in crediting externalcourses and courses previously taken at <strong>Ryerson</strong>, prior toenrolling in the certificate. Choosing this option ensures thatall courses taken towards the certificate will be included inyour cumulative GPA.Option 2: Register in the certificate prior to the completion of50 percent of the certificate program requirementsThis option allows students to attempt courses in thecertificate program prior to deciding to register in andpursue the certificate. Choosing this option means thatcourses completed prior to registration, up to a maximum of50 percent, will be used towards the certificate’s graduationrequirements, however, will not be included in yourcumulative GPA.<strong>Ryerson</strong> full- and part-time undergraduate students wishingto pursue a <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> certificate program should beaware of possible registration restrictions (e.g., the Certificatein Accounting - Finance is not open to students in the fullorpart-time Business Management – Accounting majorundergraduate degree program). Refer to the CurriculumAdvising website for a complete list of certificate restrictions.Graduation from a Certificate Program<strong>The</strong>re are specific policies which apply to the fulfillment ofcertificate requirements and to the graduation process. Tobe eligible for a certificate program’s graduation award asauthorized by Senate, a student must have met all of thefollowing academic requirements:1. Successfully completed all courses in the certificateprogram’s curriculum with at least a minimum passinggrade (or a non-graded course credit) in each course.2. Been formally registered in the certificate program forwhich the award is sought.3. Achieved an overall academic performance of at least a1.67 GPA in graded <strong>Ryerson</strong> courses applicable to thecertificate’s curriculum requirements.4. Completed, as a <strong>Ryerson</strong> student registered in thecertificate program, studies that normally includeat least one-half of the program’s curriculum usingcourses completed by enrollment in course offeringsof <strong>The</strong> G. Raymond <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> of ContinuingEducation. Courses can be used towards more than onecertificate program; however, eligibility for more thanone graduation award will normally require additionalcourses of at least one-half of the additional certificate’scurriculum requirements.5. Successfully completed the program’s curriculum withinsix years from the time of registration in the certificateprogram. In extenuating circumstances, petitions fora greater time span or re-registration in a certificateprogram may be made, in writing, to the <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong>program director for consideration.6. Completed the curriculum that was in effect at the timeof registration into the certificate – the curriculum thatwas published on <strong>The</strong> G. Raymond <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> ofContinuing Education website. In some circumstances,however, certificate requirements may change, e.g., areduction in the number of courses required for thecertificate or courses no longer being available. Anyrequests for course substitutions/directives or othermodifications to program requirements/programtransfers must be approved both by the academiccoordinator and program director. Course Substitution/Directive forms are administered by the CurriculumAdvising office. Note: <strong>The</strong> G. Raymond <strong>Chang</strong> <strong>School</strong> ofContinuing Education Certificate Program Registration/Transfer Form is administered by the <strong>Student</strong> Recordsoffice. Failure to obtain written permission on theappropriate form and within the established deadline willresult in ineligibility to graduate.Note: It is advisable to have all substitutions/directivesauthorized well in advance of enrollment in the substitute/directed course.Application Procedures1. Ensure you are eligible to graduate (see academicrequirements above).2. Consult Important Dates for application deadlines.Convocation takes place twice a year, in the Springand Fall terms. In either case, applications will not beaccepted after the final deadline. <strong>Student</strong>s who miss thisdeadline and those who have not met their graduationrequirements should apply to graduate for the followingconvocation.3. Apply to graduate online at my.ryerson.ca (RAMSS ) usinga valid MasterCard, Visa, or American Express to pay thegraduation administration fee. If unable to pay by creditcard, submit an application along with the graduationfee in person at Enrollment Services and <strong>Student</strong> Fees,located in the Podium, lower ground floor, room POD64,350 Victoria Street. After the deadline to apply, a late feewill apply along with the administration fee.Note: Applicants awaiting decisions on pendingChallenge Credits, substitutions/directives, programtransfers, or Transfer Credits should still apply tograduate. However, in order to qualify for graduation,all credits must be approved and posted on the student’sacademic record prior to the final date to clear alloutstanding academic graduation requirements.4. Clear up any withholds, e.g., outstanding fees, overduelibrary books or unpaid fines, outstanding equipment,etc. Withholds can be checked on my.ryerson.ca(RAMSS). A certificate cannot be released unless allfinancial obligations are cleared.5. Confirm the receipt of your application. Visit my.ryerson.ca(RAMSS) and see your Checklist in your <strong>Student</strong> Centre.6. Wait to hear from the Curriculum Advising officeregarding your eligibility. You will be notified by mailas soon as possible of any outstanding requirements.Approximately two weeks prior to Convocation, alleligible students will receive an invitation to attendthe Convocation ceremonies. <strong>Student</strong>s who have beendeemed ineligible to graduate will also be notified at thistime. For Convocation information, visit www.ryerson.ca/convocation.Graduation in AbsentiaIf you do not plan to attend your Convocation ceremony, youare required to notify us as to whether you will be picking upyour academic award or wish to have it mailed. Confirm thisinformation at RSVPs – Ceremonies and Receptions. At thetime you notify us of your non-attendance, you will be askedto provide the mailing address to which you would like yourdocument mailed. <strong>Student</strong>s who would like to pick up theirdocument may do so from Enrollment Services and <strong>Student</strong>Fees (POD64, 350 Victoria Street) for a period of two weeksafter the final Convocation ceremony. <strong>Student</strong>s are welcometo come and pick up their document during this time. Ifsomeone other than yourself is picking up your document,that person must present a letter authorizing them to doso. Fundscan be loaded onto your card at the card value centre (CVC)machines, which are located on the 2nd and 5th floors ofthe Library.
