www.brparks.orgOak Grove ParkAlthough the Park District has owned Oak Grove Park in fullsince 1991, the community can now finally access the propertyand enjoy the new amenities. Visitors can now park vehiclesoff street, and access a trail, picnic shelter, and small childplay area. For convenience, a permanent seasonal washroomfacility is provided. The District expects Oak Grove Park to bean attractive rental option for small picnics and parties, so besure to check it out. What Can We Build Now?Since our first of three Master Plans was implemented in1998, the Park District has constructed an impressive array ofnew park amenities and facilities while securing funding tosustain construction excellence within the 79 acre park system. Most of our equipment is less than 10 years old andvery little developable property remains in the park system. That is great news. For such a small community, Burr RidgePark District enjoys state-of-the-art park properties, equipment, and facilities, and will for many years to come. Fiscalyear 2011 is a “regrouping” year, as District officials assess allcurrent properties, develop priorities, conduct public hearings, and develop a new Master Plan for 2013-2018.Recently Renovated/Developed Park Properties:l Woods Pool Park - Fall, 2010l Harvester Park Wetlands - Fall, 2010l Oak Grove Park - Summer, 2011Harvester Park Splash Playground:The Park District has decided to eliminate a splash playgroundfrom the Park’s development plan. After careful studyof park usage trends, degree of maintenance expertise andexpense, and operational/utility costs, the District determinedthat, in today’s economic climate, the added annual costs ofoperating the splash pad in a high quality way wouldcreate too high of deficit spending. This type of deficitspending could place other vital services in jeopardy, and theDistrict was not willing to take that risk. A central playgroundrenovation for Harvester Park will definitely be a new MasterPlan component, and we anticipate a water element or twowill be part of the design. But the District has abandonedplans for a multi-element, aquatic focus splash playground.Oak Grove Tot Play AreaPark Development NewsOak Grove ShelterOak Grove Entrance/Parking LotHarvester Wetland ShelterWoods Pool Playground/Tennis Court37
